Genuine reclaimed antique key hole escutcheons and key plates. First produced as a simple metal plate, usually brass to protect the wood around the key hole from damage by the key. The Georgians then added an hinged cover for elegance, typical of their period, this of course had a dual purpose, it reduced draughts. Many of the Georgian ones were quite plain with little or no decoration, of course the Victorians had to decorate everything and patterned ones appeared, the Edwardians preferred plain and so it generally remained through to the thirties. Brass is most commonly found but we do usually have wooden ones as well, along with china and the later Bakelite. Small items, important detail.
